Bladder Flask

The New Blockaders

In 1980 the brothers Philip Rupenus and Richard Rupenus started as Funeral Danceparty, in 1981 they changed their name to Bladder Flask and in 1982 changed again to The New Blockaders or TNB. The New Blockaders were the first to progress from the use of noise as assault on tonality to the development of a rich, complex language. They combined a masked mythology with a militant anti-art/anti-music stance. This was the very definition of nihilism through sound. They can truly be credited as pioneers of Noise music as we know it today. Funeral Danceparty and Bladder Flask where different in music style as TNB, very long collages of samples and soundscapes cleverly put together, creating strange compositions in a nihilistic dadaist manner.
