David about Six Things Recycled: although it’s subtitled ‘Remixes by The Darkening Scale’ they’re not really remixes in the usual sense, nor are they alternative versions of the original tracks. I was interested to see what would happen if I took some of the original FL sequencing patterns I used for The Entomology of Sound and then use different samples and alter the tempo and timing. Of course, changing the samples changed everything and immediately suggested new directions to pursue. So the tracks sound nothing like their parents and are really new compositions, although Casbah Air recognisably uses themes from Bach’s Aria and String Graft Men contains some recognisable material from the String Fragments.
