It seems that this 7″ was a bootleg which was original credited to Tana Emmolo-Smith & Joseph T. Jacobs. According to Discogs: “The original release of this has a 3-colour cover and credits Tana Emmolo-Smith and Joseph T. Jacobs on their respective sides of the cover. A second version was released with a black & white cover that credits Monte Cazazza and Factrix on the front. The vinyl, however, has the original labels that credit Tana Emmolo-Smith and Joseph T. Jacobs. It is unclear if this second version was entirely official. Joseph T. Jacobs was a member of Factrix. Tana Emmolo-Smithis featured on some of Monte Cazazza’s releases. This is an excellent minimal ambient release. Prescient Dreams this release and the original where released on vinyl by Subterranean Records (SUB37) in 1983.

Factrix – Empire Of Passion / Splice Of Life

Empire Of Passion

With a Big Thanks to Sekhmet here’s Factrix first 7″.

A little history:

A musical partnership is formed by Bond Bergland [guitar / vocals] and Cole Palme [electronics / vocals]. They initially collaborate with Patrick Miller and perform 3-4 shows using Miller’s moniker Minimal Man. Tommy Tadlock assists with equipment, rhythm tapes, and live signal processing. Back to being a duo, they choose the name Factrix and soon enlist a third member, Joseph T. Jacobs [bass / vocals]. Factrix begins rehearsing in the basement of San Francisco’s premier punk store, “Supplies,” and experiments with psychoactive chemicals, instrument processing, and unconscious composing methods. Empire Of Passion / Splice Of Life was released on vinyl by Adolescent Records (AR-TT-004) in 1980. Re-released on the Artifact 2 x cd by Storm (STRM 08) in 2003.
