Hugo Klang – The Wheel Of Fat / Mouse Runner

Hugo klang is another band by Ian Olsen aka Ollie Olson (also see the previous Orchestra of Skin and Bone post) with Marie Hoy as the only two credited on the back cover, but I suspect they had a little help from John Murphy, who where close friends in those days. Ollie Olsen has been producing innovative music in Australia for the past twenty-five years. He began studying electronic music in the mid 70s under Felix Werder, a German composer living in Australia who had studied under Karlheinz Stockhausen. In the late 70′s Ollie formed one of the first electronic bands, Whirlywirld, releasing a number of recordings on Missing Link Records. During the next ten years Ollie formed experimental outfits Hugo Klang, Orchestra of Skin and Bone and NO. The sound is a percussive minimal electronic style with a strong influence by The Birthday Party, as Ollie’s vocals just sound like Nick Cave. This is truly an amazing 7″. The Wheel Of Fat / Mouse Runner was released on vinyl as a 7″ by Au Go Go (ANDA 24) in 1982.
