This reissued CD pairs two of the earliest In the Nursery works, Twins and Temper. At the time, the music of the outfit was much less classical and lush than what it has eventually evolved into. Featuring either somewhat dated sounding echoing drum machines or sparse militaristic percussion, distant sounding electronics, chants, voices and a very tense vibe. Though some of the more experimental stages of the music are a bit uncomfortable or even fail to a certain degree, the overall effect is good. On “Judgement of Paris”, you can hear where the project would eventually go in that pseudo-classical ambient vein. But at the same time you get strange chants over piano like “Joaquin” or the dissonant electronic disassembly of “Butyrki”. A worthy historical document of a very prolific band. Twins was released on CD by ITN Corporation (corp 009) in 1994. The last three tracks are from the “Temper” 12″.

Excellent release by ITN, “the soundtrack to an imaginary film” , a more subtle approach by favouring theatrical atmospherics over industrial clatter. Twin brothers Klive and Nigel Humberstone and guitar player Anthony Bennett formed this Sheffield, England-based band in 1981. The trio originally tagged along with the UK’s industrial music scene, releasing the six-track When Cherished Dreams Come True in June 1983. Read More →.
