Various – Art Is The Handmaid Of Human Good

Art Is The Handmaid Of Human Good

Excellent compilation album with a wide diversity of artists ranging from alternative rock/blues/country rock to minimal synth and experimental music. All tracks seem to have a central theme about Lowell (Massachusetts) in the U.S., which is also the location of RRRecords. Data-Bank-A: Born of Hungarian immigrants in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, Andrew is settled now in Massachusetts, where he writes and records in his home-based digital recording studio. Andrew began experimenting with tape loops and synthesizers in 1979. And released his first EP in 1983. He now has 27 recordings released on vinyl and CD in 4 countries in Europe and the U.S. spanning 13 years. Data-Bank-A – for the gothic synth pop material, this is mostly solo, but has at various times become an ensemble of 4 musicians for recording and touring. This project has recorded 12 releases for 3 labels and toured New England and Germany. The sound has been compared to Severed Heads, Fad Gadget, Gary Numan, Sisters of Mercy etc.. Bob Coltman: is one of the best kept secrets in traditional music. He has written hundreds of songs, and many have entered folk music and credited to “traditional”. Even when you hear Bob’s songs for the first time, you feel as though you have heard them before. Very few musicians have had Bob’s ability to write a song and have it accepted, immediately, as traditional. An excellent instrumentalist on banjo, fiddle, guitar, mandolin and harmonica, Bob is admired by all of his contemporaries and it is a rare performance by traditional musicians that does not include at least one of his songs. Curious Voltage: is Christopher Elston. Due Process: featuring Thomas Dimuzio, Ron Lessard (the man behind RRRecords) and John Wiggins, Due Process knows how to crank it out. While they can create a terrific din, the music actually leans a bit in the ambient direction, with lower dynamics and muffled timbres, albeit with a raucous pandemonium of noise just beneath the surface. Any info on the other artists is highly appreciated. Art Is The Handmaid Of Human Good was released on vinyl by RRRecords (RRR 054) in 1990.
