P.D. – Alltag

Alltag

In January 1980 I (Ralf Wehowsky) founded with 2 friends my first group ever. the secret name of the group was Progressive Disco, abbreviated PD. Influences came from free music, punk, experimental and psychedelic rock as well as from new classical music, industrial and disco, which were melted into an own style, using tapes as well as conventional rock instrumentation. We recorded our first record, Alltag, in my parents’ basement. The dense sound of that production really gained a lot from playing everything – two basses, guitar, and tapes – through that one amp.We released our first record, the P.D. Alltag EP by ourselves (without even thinking about another label) and offered it to everyone we thought could be interested. It worked out fine. Alltag was released as a 7″ by Wahrnehmungen (76.10 310) in 1980.

Tracks:

  1. Schweigende Mehrheit
  2. Ein Besuch Im Einkaufszentrum / Moderne Muzak
  3. Heimwerker / Alltag
  4. Hauptbahnhof

P.D. – Inweglos

Inweglos

R.Wehowsky was the main man behind P16.D4 and PD, but here as PD. The band included members such as, Jochen Pense, Joachim Stender and Achim Szepanski. In some of these tracks PD is shown as a typical Neue Deutsche Welle band: finding their own form within rock music based on punk and new wave but in a more alternative form and as always with German lyrics. PD use to quite an extensive part synthesizers and rhythm boxes, along with bass guitars, guitars and vocals. At times they sound like a very free form improv band and at other times a more rock version of the early Der Plan, but without so much of humour involved in Der Plan. PD is much more political and also more dark in their lyrics – save for some hints towards disco in Progressive Disco. Some of the material forecasts the later P16.D4 work, such as in the semi cut-up of KurzzugNach Frankfurt, but in general fits the 1980 sound very well: distorted, free form music, taking punk and new wave in a much wider field of music. Inweglos was released on lp by Wahrnehmungen (RP 1091) in 1980. Re-released on cd in 2004 by Absurd (#40) with 5 bonus tracks. This is the vinyl version.
