Rinf – Rinf

Rinf ( Italy) was a different kind of band, and certainly one that could inspire respect. Although everybody told them to conform, they were aloof when everybody else pretended to be expressionless. They were stylish without even trying. Make no mistake, Rinf’s music is pop. It’s heavily researched pop… a textbook so dense with quotes that eventually drowned under its own weight. The simple patterns suffocated by the screeching jazzy urgency. The robotic streamlined refrains hammered down into primitive artefacts. The pages of elegantly written tunes shredded and fashioned into a couture dress and then set on fire. Acting out like children with ADD hitting puberty and unleashed in a too structured environment, Rinf were defying those restrictions, in the most self-aware way. Making music that made you think of heads banged against the wall until it bleeds, of touching yourself until it’s raw and it hurts. The conflagration of unbound nihilism and composed poise makes their music still lively and relevant. Lapo Belmestieri. S/T vinyl 12″ released by Urgent Label (UL 003) in 1983.
