Out Of Standard!! - Italia 1

Nice experimental compilation featuring Italian bands. LA 1919: (aka La 1919 Spontaneo) are a Milanese avant-progressive band that first started life in September 1980. The brainchild of Luciano Margorani and his friend Piero Chianura, the band have released five albums to date. Their sound is electronic-based, but still consists of traditional rock-band instruments, such as electric and bass guitar (with assistance by clarinets and saxophones on later releases). Mostly though, the band uses keyboard effects and tape looping, combined with a Frippian and Frithian guitar sound, supplied by Margorani (much more evident on their second and third releases), with overlying electronic drums, culminating in a unique sound that flirts with jazz, no-wave, post-punk and electronica, yet is remarkably progressive rock in its basic state. From 1982 to 1983, La 1919 were part of the “Coopertiva L’Orchestra” of Milan and they eventually released their debut album “L’Enorme Tragedia” on cassette only in 1985. It seems they received somewhat of a following, because on their second release “Ars srA” (1987), they are assisted on some tracks by Henry Kaiser on Synclavier and guitar and many other guest Italians. After their second release, the band seem to have had a break until at least April 1991 and May 1992, when the they played live concerts in Italy. It was these concerts that became the basis for their third album “Jouer, Spielen, To Play” (1994). On this album, they were ably assisted by RIO stalwart drummers Chris Cutler (Henry Cow, The (ec) Nudes, The Science Group) and Charles Hayward (Quiet Sun, This Heat, Camberwell Now, Massacre), as well as Roberto Zorzi, who is a prolific guitarist of the Fred Frith style and who has also played with Henry Kaiser. The material on this album was quite different to their first two albums (mostly due to the guest performers), consisting of twin guitars and even a song by Charles Hayward. Their fourth album was “Giorni Felici” (1997) and again, the duo had guests, including Henry Kaiser, Franco Fabbri (Stormy Six), John Oswald and Fausto Rossi. Their most recent album is 2005′s “Freepopjazzrock”. Tasaday: The experimental/noise/tribal/post-rock/industrial music band, located in Brianza, Italy. Active since 1982 and formed from two bands named Die Form & Orgasmo Negato, (changed in Die Form & Nulla Iperreale in 1983) the band chose the definitive name Tasaday in 1984. In the 80s they had many live performances, published fanzines, 3 LP’s, a unknown number of cassettes and many radio transmissions. In the 90s they had some performances, one CD and other stuff. Visit and . Brain Discipline: have no info on Brain Discipline, they seem to be friends of Tasaday. L’Ultimo Arcano:  is Giorgio Cantoni who also played in Radio Honolulu and Detonazione, and often collaborated with the brothers Toniutti. Sigillum S: Formed in Milan on 23 December 1985 by Paolo Bandera, Eraldo Bernocchi, and Luca Di Giorgio. Their unique sound is derived from the use of a variety of instruments, ranging from samplers to ethnic instruments, and guitar synths to shortwave generators. In addition to their extensive musical output, Sigillum S also works in the areas of visual art and text., still very active today. You can read all you want to know and , and don’t miss the about 15 cdr re-release of their entire catalogue! F:A.R. Sigillum S

After receiving this comment from Sigillum S, I’ve decided to delete all there post as they requested.

A NOTE FROM SIGILLUM S REGARDING PIRACY AND ILLEGAL DISTRIBUTION OF OUR WORKS.

Please read carefully.

Lately we discovered a lot of sites that illegally distribute our works, it’s more than evident that many people are into our sound outputs, especially those from the early years, but also the latest ones. naturally this makes us proud but…now starts to be too much.

This situation started some years ago on a very modest scale but now it is literally going out of control as we could find our complete discography on the web for free with a lot of people reviewing and commenting single items in the most natural way.
Most of the stuff is shared and placed on blogs by the very same people who once bought our records and think they are free to handle them in the way they prefer. Read the comments and discover by yourself.

These are just some examples:

We’re aware that there’s no way to stop piracy and illegal distribution of intellectual property,
Those who claim to have a way to do it are just loosing their time and are very likely stealing money from labels and artists promising something that can’t be done. At the same time, we’re not condoning this behavior at all as:

a) it is illegal
b) it is stealing from us
c) it is preventing us from earning money, money we use to survive like all small and experimental project/bands.

So we decided to take some actions in order to try to moderate the above matter if not, in some extreme cases, stop it.

As above…

Eraldo Bernocchi is now partner and artistic director of RareNoise Ltd, a record label and media company based in UK that will handle all of his projects including the reissue of the whole Sigillum S back-catalogue. Every published Sigillum S item will include additional rare and unreleased material in order to give people added value for the money they’ll spend on these special editions.
