Théâtre Commercial – Spectacle Commercial

Spectacle Commercial

Théâtre Commercial was formed in 1985 by Antoine Campo and Catherine Rimbaud. They had been working together on earlier projects since 1980. Antoine Campo about Spectacle Commercial:

“I had created – with the Théâtre de la Tempête in Paris – an experimental spectacle on a serial principle inspired by the work of Schönberg and the American underground group The Residents. It was a spectacle made up of sixty one, one minute duration spectacles. It was a “limiting experiment” with its limits, its madness and its disconcerting strangeness. A record was  recorded in 1985, under the ironic title Théâtre Commercial in homage to The Residents. My god! And even the ministry for culture had supported us!”

Sadly there are only 10 of the 60 tracks on this release. Spectacle Commercial was released on vinyl as a 12″ by Picture Wave Records (0060) in 1985. Released with 6 inserts, a A4 flyer and a card announcement of Spectacle Commercial.
